This Is Only The Beginning...

My dear friend Laura, surprised me with this adorable t-shirt for my impending little one. I am in love with this shirt already, and can't wait to frame it when he grows out of it someday. I've been listening to this CD trying to get him used to the songs, so we can play it in the car and nursery after his arrival.

I wish all a terrific weekend, and I especially wish Laura a magical birthday...you deserve it.

Gratitude.

Today I am so grateful for...

  1. Our air conditioner going out and getting fixed in the same day {I cried when it wasn't working...pregnancy and 110 degree heat don't mix well}.

  2. Having sprinkles cupcakes after dinner last night.

  3. Knowing I am going to have a son.

  4. Being surrounded by friends who encourage me when I'm freaking out, and celebrate with me when I am excited.

  5. Being able to take Brooks with us on our summer vacation.

Oh Boy.

I am happy to report that we found out yesterday that we are having a baby boy come November. I can't wait to have a son who takes after his father, to teach him to care about the environment and to love The Beatles.

This is a true gift and we feel immensely blessed...many, many times over.

Happy Baby.

I hope my baby thinks things around our house are this funny...

I love hearing that laugh!

Mid-Week Surprise.

On Wednesday J. walked through the front door holding this bouquet of peonies. I was overjoyed, as they are my most favorite flower {see above header}, and they fill the house with the sweetest scent.

I took the amazing flowers and divided them up into separate bud vases, so that I could distribute them all around the house.

Later that night, I left J. a note of appreciation for him to see first thing the next morning.

To which, he left me a sweet note in return. These are the little things that make me love our life together...

I wish everyone a weekend full of lovely surprises.

What I'm Loving About Being Pregnant...

I'm officially now in maternity clothes, and lately I have found some of the cutest things to wear while it's a million degrees outside.

This dress makes me feel so pretty, which is like finding gold right now, since most of the time I feel like a roly poly with a broken out chin {ugh...hormones!}. I can't wait to wear it every chance I get in the next 5 months.

Remembering What's Important...

J. came home last week and told me that a local guy, who owned a very prestigious real estate investment firm, and whom J. met on a few occasions, had killed himself. He left behind a wife and three children. Apparently, the market here in Phoenix has become so terrible, and he owed so much money to so many people, that he didn't see any other way out. It has been on my mind since I heard, and it's really put things into perspective. The things this tragedy has made me remember...

  • Nothing is so terrible that it's worth your own life.
  • Family and friends, that love you no matter what, are invaluable when the chips are down.
  • Sometimes the simple life is a much happier life in the long run.
  • It's OK to fail.

  • When money is on the upswing, always put some aside for the downpour.

  • Hold on tight to your core values, never letting your ego or money get in the way.

I pray for his family and hope that he is resting in peace. To read the full story go here.

Barneys Is Coming!

I read an article in the paper yesterday that confirmed that they have started building Barneys right here at Fashion Square to open in 2009. I am so excited since I have always loved the unique goods that Barneys carries, plus I am happy to live in a city sophisticated enough to finally have a Barneys! Now, I just hope the economy turns around by the opening, so we can all afford to shop there.

Fathers Day.

Here I am with my dad after having lunch at the Valley Ho yesterday. I get a lot of my personality traits and features from this man, so it's only fitting that I celebrate his greatness on Fathers Day. My dad is funny, charismatic, confident, caring and solid as a rock. He has always been there for me when I've reached out, and for that I am eternally grateful.

I also celebrated a new father to be - J. I bought him a few items I knew he'd love, to which he teared up and told me how nice it is to be appreciated. My kids are going to have it so easy when they buy him gifts. He is so grateful for the smallest things and makes the giver feel like a million bucks.

I hope a wonderful day was had by all the great dads out there...it is such an important and necessary job.

Gratitude.

Lately, I've been feeling so grateful for...

  1. Acquiring new baby items and loving how they look in the ever evolving nursery.

  2. Spending time chatting with good friends, Keri and Laura, over pizza and popsicles.

  3. Having a husband who is my best friend, and can laugh with me over the silly stuff.

  4. My mom coming home this weekend from a 3 week long European trip...I've really missed her.

  5. Another vacation coming up on the horizon.

Happy Friday the 13th!

A Fun Time to Be Pregnant...

Restoration Hardware has finally opened up their online baby and child store and I am so excited. Here are some of my favorites...

I love the monogrammed onesie...I can't wait to find out what I am having so I can start ordering little initials on things. If I find out it's a girl, those bumble bee pillows are mine! Plus, this is the first crib J. and I have been able to agree on, so that's a good sign of things to come.

Vacation Re-Cap

We went on a semi-impromptu vacation last week {one of the days it turned 109, we decided to make plans to get out of town...fast}. We spent 4 days on Coronado Island in San Diego and it was heaven. We always take Brooks with us when we drive, and he has become the best little traveler. Here are some highlights...

J. loves the water, so he was overjoyed to rent a boat and drive around the bay.

We conveniently planned the trip around when the Chicago Cubs would be playing in San Diego. J found 3rd row seats online and they were awesome! I am not much of a sports fan, but sitting so close, you can't help but get into it. J was in heaven...

The next day we went walking along the beach by The Hotel Del and Brooks took a much needed break. He loves all the attention he gets from people walking by. This particular day it was 60 degrees, raining and freezing...so refreshing!

When it warmed up, we took Brooks to the dog beach where he was able to run with other dogs and enjoy the sand. He wore himself out in 7 minutes...he really isn't athletic so he spent most of the time sitting on a towel watching all the other dogs.

We decided that this was our favorite house on the island...

Vacations are wonderful, but it's always nice to be home.

Keri, Kaylie and I went to see Sex and the City opening night and despite the theatre being maxed out at 400 people, girls talking incessantly and having to sit in the 4th row... it was fabulous and I can't wait to see it again.
